Wellway Medical Group operate a managed appointments system to meet the needs of patients at their main surgery in Morpeth and branch surgeries in Pegswood, Lynemouth and Newbiggin. The system is reviewed on a weekly basis thus ensuring an efficient service.

Patients are able to obtain a routine appointment within 48 hours, but may have to wait longer to see a specific GP at the site of their choice. Urgent same day appointments are available with a doctor or nurse.

Patients requesting advice will have their telephone number and details taken by the receptionist and a return call made by the appropriate person.

Thirty years ago the practice had 5 full time Partners who, with the help of our nurses and health visitors, looked after the patients of the practice when they were ill. Today the practice has 4 full time Partners, an additional full time and 2 to 5 part-time doctors who, with the help of our nurses and health visitors, carry out Well Man Checks, Well Woman Checks, Diabetic clinics, Asthma clinics, Hypertension clinics, Heart Disease clinics Travel clinics, minor surgery, acupuncture, joint injections and we still have to try and find time to look after the patients of the practice who are ill! Alongside most of the practices in Northumberland, we are providing more and more services for our patients without any increase in manpower or resources.

Appointments for those with daytime commitments:

Patients lead busy lives and with an increasing component of Primary Care involving chronic disease management, provision of routine appointments within the 'normal' working day may not be convenient.

To address this we have some routine appointments geared to those with daytime commitments.

These include early morning appointments starting from 8.30am, lunchtime slots 12-1pm, and late afternoon/early evening appointments 5-6.pm.

Appointments can be pre-booked at any of our surgeries with the receptionist. These appointments are strictly for those patients who are unable to attend during normal surgery hours and not requiring urgent appointments.

We are constantly striving to improve the quality of service we provide to you, our patients, and we trust that these surgeries will give better access to primary healthcare.

Cancelling an Appointment:

If you are unable to keep an appointment, please inform the receptionist as soon as possible. REMEMBER - you may be grateful for an appointment at short notice some time in the future!

Out of Hours Emergencies:

On 1 September 2004 the responsibility for providing medical services when your GP surgery is closed will move to Northumberland Care Trust. For the majority of patients, there will be little change as Northern Doctors Urgent Care (NDUC) will continue to provide this out of hours medical service. However, for those patients who have never used their service these are the new arrangements:

NDUC - Out of Hours service is available when the surgery is closed :-

Monday to Thursday 6.30 pm - 8.00 am
Weekends 6.30 pm on Friday to 8.00 am on Monday.

Telephone: Northern Doctors Urgent Care on 0845 60 80 320

(This number is given on the surgery answer phone if you telephone after working hours.) A leaflet explaining the new service is available in the surgery.

Please note that this surgery will not be open at all on Saturday mornings. If this is the day that you call in for repeat prescriptions, you will need to make alternative arrangements. Our practice staff will be happy to advise you.

Acute Ailment Clinic:

As from 2nd December 2002, you may be offered a SAME DAY appointment with one of our senior nursing sisters for any of the following problems:

Our receptionists have been trained to ask specific questions to ensure you are given an appropriate appointment.
