Burns and Scalds:

The danger from burns comes from the surface area affected and the depth of the burn. Children are particularly vulnerable as their skin is thin and they have a small surface area. Preventing them getting burned or scalded in the first place makes sense. Using fire guards and turning pan handles inwards saves lives.

Self-help:

Avoid the temptation to burst blisters. This is nature's way of preventing infection. They will eventually pop on their own, and should be covered with a sterile bandage or first-aid bandage so that no dirt or bacteria can get into the wound.
